Responsibilities of administrators, staff, and students when using computers and the internet

In 2002, the GBSD revised its acceptable use policies for computers and the internet. All of the files have been converted to portable document format (PDF) for ease of distribution and are available here. To download, click on the document title.

    Policy IIBGA AR

This is the central policy / procedure document that outlines the responsibilities of administrators, staff, and students when using computers and the Internet in the school district. It provides guidelines for system access and etiquette, consequences for misuse of the system, and due process.

Internet use rules for elementary students
   Elementary Student Brochure

This document is a three-fold brochure intended to be sent home to parents with a copy of the Required Parent Permission Form for parents to sign. It lists the rules to be followed when elementary students use computers and the Internet at school.

Notes: This brochure should be printed back-to-back and folded in three parts with the GBSD logo on the top.

Elementary students parent permission form for internet use
   Required Parental Permission Form
   Required Parental Permission Form in Spanish
This form is applicable to students in grades K through 5 only. It should accompany the Elementary Student Brochure when it is sent home. Additional copies of this form should be available in the school office for parents who want to modify their permission.

Notes: For students in grades K-5, parental consent is to be provided through the “parent permission form” that is available through the various elementary school offices. Access will be provided only when a signed form granting permission is on file at the school. Elementary schools must retain the original signed permission form for as long as the student attends the school. Parental permission is valid as long as the student attends the school where the permission form is kept.

Middle school and high school students parent permission form for internet use

   Secondary Student Brochure

This document is a four-fold brochure intended to be distributed to parents to inform them about student Internet access. It lists the rules to be followed when secondary students use computers and the Internet at school.
Printing Instructions:
Paper: legal-sized (8.5 X 14)
Orientation: Landscape
Notes: This brochure should be printed back-to-back and folded in four parts with the GBSD logo on the top. When opened, the center panels should contain the statement "Internet Access and Your Student." For students in grades 6-12, access to the Internet will be granted unless the parent returns the “denial of permission” form to the school office. Students will be denied access once a signed form is on file at the school. Secondary schools must retain the original signed “denial of permission” form for as long as the student attends the school. Parental denial of permission is valid as long as the student attends the school where the permission form is kept.

  Student Handbook
This document contains the district expectations for student use of computers and the Internet and is included within the district Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. The text of the PDF is available here so that it can be copied and pasted into other formats as needed.

This document contains the district expectations for staff use of computers and the Internet and is intended to be placed within the staff handbook at each school.    Web Authors Handbook
This document contains the district expectations for staff and students who participate in web authoring or web design activities. It is intended to be placed in the staff handbook at each school. Staff members should print and share this document with students who are responsible for web authoring tasks. The text of the PDFs can be copied and pasted into other formats and principals may feel free to reformat the text to match the existing format of the staff handbook.

  Lab Rules Poster
This document contains the district expectations for students who are working in any school computer lab. It is intended to be printed and posted in the computer lab(s) at each school in plain sight of students.
