District to District Transfers for 2015-2016 - May 1-15
The process for requesting a release to leave GBSD to attend school in another district is now closed for the 2015-2016 school year.

Transferring Into GBSD from Another District
  • Up to 72 non-resident students will be allowed to enroll in GBSD schools for the 2015-16 school year. Parents need to contact their resident district to begin the transfer process. Your district will forward your paperwork to GBSD and the submission deadline is June 30, 2015.
  • ONLY the following school and grade level transfers into our district will be accepted for 2015-2016. If the applications exceed the slots allowed, there will be a lottery drawing with parent notification by July 15,  2015. Priority is given to students who currently have a sibling attending in our district.

  • Students who move during the school year to a home located in a different school district do not need permission to remain in their current school through the end of the year. However, they do need to receive both a release from their new resident district and approval from their current district in order for the transfer to extend to the next school year.
  • Permission for transfer in to or out of GBSD is based on priorities established by the GBSD school board, space availability and random lottery numbers. There is a set timeframe for applying for inter-district transfers, and late applications will be denied. The timelines are posted here and prominently on the form.
  • Releases out of GBSD are good through the highest grade of the approved school. Transfers into GBSD remain in effect through the highest grade of the approved school. For example, if a child is given permission to attend a K-5 school beginning in 1st grade, the family does not have to ask again to remain in that school, but does need to make a new request to attend a GBSD school for 6th grade.
  • Transfers can be revoked if a student does not meet conduct, attendance or behavior standards, and families always have the right to return to their home school in their resident district.
  • Inter-district transfer laws are complex and have changed considerably over the past several years. Feel free to call the office of the Deputy Superintendent (503-261-4577) at any time to learn how current rules apply to your particular circumstance.
