Gresham-Barlow School District's Negotiations Update
February 23, 2012
District requests meeting with Association
At the District’s request, a bargaining session was held the morning of February 21, 2012. Three members from the District’s negotiations team and three members from the Association’s team met for two and a half hours.
In addition to discussing the final offers provided to the mediator on February 10, the two groups also discussed the upcoming February 28 mediation session. The groups talked about how to adjust the format of the mediation session with the goals of building understanding and finding solutions to unresolved issues.
District’s track record of availability for negotiations sessions
Over the 7 months of regular negotiations, the District met eight times with the Association, which equates to roughly
34 hours.
34 hours.
Prior to mediated negotiations, the District canceled one session in August, due to the death of a negotiations team’s family member.
A negotiations session scheduled for October 19 did not occur because the District called for mediation on October 3.
When mediation was called for in October, the District made itself available on multiple dates prior to winter break during the months of November and December. In fact, the District stated it would be available to meet on any date in the month of December.
Mediated sessions since the first of January have been limited to the availability of the state mediator.
Outside of full-team or mediated negotiations, the District has met twice with Association leadership. As stated earlier, the February 21 meeting was at the District’s request. All told, by March 1, the District will have met with the Association in some form thirteen different times—approximately 70 hours. The District has made every effort to negotiate a settlement.
Information about the District’s proposals is posted on the District Website. Staff members with questions about these proposals are encouraged to contact their school principal or their association leadership.
