Gresham-Barlow schools achieve re-certification in the Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program

School district is leader in the country for managing energy use

The Gresham-Barlow School District announced today that it has achieved ENERGY STAR re-certification of all of its eligible schools. Beginning in 2010, the district had all of its schools ENERGY STAR certified. As a part of the district’s re-boot with the ENERGY STAR program, the district put its eligible schools through stringent requirements to earn the new ENERGY STAR certified status. To date, the Gresham-Barlow School District’s ENERGY STAR score is 96, which means it is the top leader in the country for managing energy in a school setting.

“Gresham-Barlow schools lead the way nationally when it comes to saving energy,” said Superintendent Jim Schlachter. “We have again achieved ENERGY STAR certification thanks to the diligent work of our staff and students.”

The process to achieve ENERGY STAR re-certification took place in September. Each of the district’s schools went through a rigorous ENERGY STAR audit performed by a licensed engineer. Less than one-fourth of one percent of school districts in the country have all eligible schools ENERGY STAR certified. The Gresham-Barlow School District is the first school district in the country to have all of its eligible schools earn ENERGY STAR re-certification.
