Changes to Protocols: Masks, Volunteers
Dear GBSD Community,
As the 2021-22 school year continues, we wanted to provide an update for you on our changes to our health and safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we have shared before, the Gresham-Barlow School District is committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment for our students and staff.
Masks now optional when outdoors
On November 23, 2021, Governor Brown and the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) announced a change to current mask guidance. In Oregon, masks are no longer required outdoors. Because of this change, in the Gresham-Barlow School District, masks outdoors are now optional. This means masks are not required during:
Students and staff who prefer to continue wearing a mask outdoors may do so.
Masks are still required inside.
The Oregon Health Authority reviews data regularly to determine the need for face coverings. As COVID-19 rates increase or decrease, OHA may make decisions to relax or tighten statewide face-covering requirements.
Students and staff are reminded that to keep our school doors open through the challenges of winter it’s important we continue to diligently follow the layered health and safety protocols currently in place.
Volunteers allowed in school buildings beginning December 6
Volunteers have always been an integral part of our efforts to provide students with a well-rounded, quality education. The Gresham-Barlow School District will begin allowing volunteers back into school buildings on December 6, 2021. All volunteers will be required to provide proof of vaccination and follow all health and safety protocols. Please check with your student’s school for more information on volunteer opportunities and to determine if it’s time to renew your volunteer background check.
Community use of school buildings to resume
The school district will be re-opening to outside groups soon. Groups using our schools will be required to follow the established safety protocols and groups not associated with the school can only use facilities when students are not present. Learn more about reserving our facilities on this webpage.
The Gresham-Barlow School District is committed to getting you the information you need, especially during the unique point in time. If you have questions, please submit them to the District’s online listening system “Let’s Talk” for a prompt response.
Thank you for partnering with us and your support as we continue to navigate the pandemic’s impacts on our students, families, and staff.
