Date for lifting of mask requirement changed
Dear GBSD Families and Staff,
Today, Thursday, February 24, 2022, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) announced it will lift indoor mask requirements for indoor public spaces and Oregon’s schools on March 19.
OHA says March 19 is the date current modeling from Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) indicates that hospitalizations will fall below 400 or fewer Oregonians per day, a level the state experienced before the arrival of the Omicron variant in Oregon.
Previously, OHA had announced that the K-12 mask rule would be lifted on March 31. School districts have shared feedback with the state that preparations for the transition could be completed earlier.
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and OHA have also announced that there will be updates to the safety protocols for quarantine, contact tracing, and testing that meet the current conditions of the pandemic. Once these updates are finalized, they will be shared out with families and staff.
The Gresham-Barlow School District will continue to work in partnership with Multnomah County Public Health and the Oregon Department of Education (Ready Schools, Safe Learners Framework) to ensure schools will continue to operate safely once the mask requirements are lifted.
Please watch for future updates.
