    Welcome Back, Hornet Families!

On behalf of all the staff here at Dexter McCarty, I would like to welcome you back to another school year! We are looking forward to a great year of in person learning at Dexter McCarty. We have faced some challenging times over the past couple of years, and it has taken all of us coming together to make it all work. I want to thank our entire Dexter McCarty community; parents, guardians, and staff, for the tremendous support and dedication that you have, and continue to, put forward for our children. It has not gone unnoticed. We had an exciting year last year, as we returned to in-person learning, but we are looking forward to being able to bring back many more opportunities for our students to have fun and learn in engaging ways in the 2022-23 school year.

Here are some important reminders as we gear up for the start of the school year:

    • Registration is online and the registration link is available on the district website.

    • Students will be provided with a school supply bundle at the beginning of the school year. This will  include everything they need to start the school year. Students will receive this on the first day of school.

    • Dexter McCarty Middle School qualifies for free breakfast and lunch for all students under the USDA Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). If you only have children attending CEP schools, you should not apply for Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FARMS). If you have at least one child at a school that is not CEP, please submit an application for FARMS. See the district webpage for more information. AT ALL SCHOOLS, a la carte purchases have a cost to the family and must be pre-paid by account or in cash.  A la carte purchases include milk without a school meal, bottled water, chips, cookies, and other snack and beverage items that are not part of a school meal.

    • The DMMS office will be open for regular school business beginning on Wednesday, August 24th. The office hours are 8:00am-4:00pm daily.

    • The first day of school for 6th graders is Tuesday, September 6th. This is a 6th grade only day designed to ease the transition into a new school.

    • The first day of school for 7th and 8th graders will be Wednesday, September 7th. Note: This is a late start day. School starts at 10:05am.

    • School hours remain the same for the upcoming school year. The student day starts at 9:05am and ends at 3:35pm. On Wednesdays school starts an hour later, at 10:05am with the same dismissal time.

    • Our Back to School Open House and Ice Cream Social will be held before school starts on August 31st, 6:00-7:00pm. Please stop by and meet the Dexter McCarty staff and enjoy a treat. Please see the attached invitation.

    • We are using a new communication tool this year called Parent Square. This is a great tool to stay connected with your child’s school and teachers. If you haven’t already, please download the app and check it out. You can customize your communication experience (how and when you receive messages).

    • Please note that we are still working on finalizing student schedules and although they are visible in StudentVue and ParentVue, they may change prior to the first day of school.

With the start of the year fast approaching, we are diligently working to ensure a positive start for all students and staff.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. The office will be open and phones will be answered beginning August 24th.

Have a great rest of the summer, and we will see you soon!

  • Dear Parents/Guardians,

The State of Oregon now requires schools to notify parents of their immunization exemption rates for each required vaccine. These rates will now be posted on our school’s website, in our school office and sent home to parents twice a year. The rates attached are the exemption rates as of last spring. Schools are required to publish this information twice each school year. Approximately the second week of March we will post the updated rates. These new rates are collected and tallied in mid February.

  • ATTENDANCE MATTERS!!!

    Parents,

A 2007 study from Johns Hopkins University found students who attended less than 90 percent of school in sixth grade were far less likely to graduate. Only 13 percent of students who attended less than 80 percent of sixth grade graduated from high school on time.  We want to help you out! If you are having issues or barriers to your student attending school on a regular basis please let us know and we can assist you. WE WANT YOUR STUDENT HERE!

It is here that we will strive to provide you with any and all relevant information, dates, and announcements that will serve to enhance our students and families' experience during their time as a Hornet. We hope that you will also take the opportunity to visit our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter, @DMMShornets, as we expand our presence on social media to keep our families and community up-to-date on the latest happenings at DMMS.

We teach to cause a positive result...
Our mission statement says it all. We, the staff of DMMS, strive to provide an overall educational experience that is focused on academic and social growth for all students. We work hard to provide our students with positive experiences that will meet them where they are and get them where they need to be in order to enter high school prepared to graduate. From our school-wide AVID program to our Positive Behavior Support and Intervention program, we work to develop and expand student skills, knowledge, and understanding of what it takes to be successful in school and in life. With a very diverse student population, we work hard to create a culture of inclusion and acceptance of all students, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances. The staff of DMMS are a hard-working, professional, passionate, and compassionate group of educators you will find. We work together to serve all students and to help them realize the rewards of an education. "All Means All" is not just a mantra for us, it is the way we approach every day, every period, every student.

Thank you for visiting our newly updated website and please come back often to view up-to-date information which will keep you informed about our school.
