Sam Barlow High School graduate finishes 19th in the Winter Olympics
Sam Michener, a Sam Barlow High School graduate, competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics as the brake man on one of the U.S.A.'s 4-man bobsled teams. Michener's team made it to the finals and placed 19th.
Although this was Michener's first Olympics, he is not new to speed. Originally a standout sprinter and football player at Barlow, he went on to run track at the University of Idaho. After being involved in what appeared to be a career ending motorcycle accident, he defied all odds and came back stronger than ever. Michener graduated from college in 2012, and his Olympic journey began when he decided to attend a bobsled tryout camp... and you know how that turned out!
Michener's mother, Sherry Michener, is also a GBSD team member. She's a special education assistant at Barlow High School and kept us updated on Sam's progress and race schedule throughout the Olympics. Thank you, Sherry!
Again, congratulations to Sam, and we can't wait to see what his future endeavors hold.
