A day of learning through song at Highland Elementary
On Friday, April 5, the students at Highland Elementary School had a visitor. Her name was Cynthia Butts and together with their counselor, Jamie Sedda, on tambourine and their teacher, Dan Zdziarski, on guitar the students learned through song.
Cynthia sang five songs of the Civil Rights movement. Interspersed between each song was a personal story, point of reference, or historical connection that brought learning to life in meaningful ways. Educators and students were invited to share in this unique experience and the room was packed with people all listening to this amazing individual.
At the conclusion of the lesson, students continued to ask questions and asked Cynthia when she would return. It is clear that this experience will resonate with the students long after the school year is over.
