Dual language immersion coming to kindergarten at Highland Elementary this fall
Parents of incoming kindergarten students at Highland Elementary can ask that their child be considered for participation in our district’s first Dual Language Immersion Program. This program will teach students in both Spanish and English with the goal of developing full bilingualism and biliteracy! Participation in the program is optional and will be determined by lottery if there are more interested families than there are slots for students.
Parents of entering Highland kindergarteners first learned about this opportunity at last month’s Connect to Kindergarten event. Interested parents are invited to an informational meeting on Tuesday, May 7th at 6:00 pm at Highland to learn more about Dual Language.
Students who participate in Dual Language Immersion demonstrate high levels of academic achievement and develop an appreciation for and an understanding of diverse cultures as they progress through the grades. This K-12 program will continue to Clear Creek Middle School and then Gresham High School where participating students will be excellent examples of the district vision: Culturally responsive graduates who will thrive in an ever-changing global community.
Highland is excited to be offering this opportunity to families in their neighborhood for the coming year!
