Preschool 2 Postsecondary Pathways 2 Career Success continues
The District has made a great deal of progress over the last several months as it works to implement the Preschool 2 Postsecondary Pathways 2 Career Success initiative.
The District has hired a Counselor on Special Assignment (Gloria Hull) to support our middle school and high school counselors and college/career coordinators in creating a comprehensive Education Plan and Profile for students in grades 6-12. The District will use Schoolinks to house the college and career scope and sequence which results in an Education Plan and Profile for each student.
Two new Career Technical Education (CTE) programs of study are coming to our high schools. The District’s CTE coordinator, Liz Maki, is leading this work and writing a Perkins grant to ensure ongoing funding to support our CTE programs.
The team has been collaborating with Director of Teaching and Learning-Secondary LaKeyshua Washington to support development of Middle School STREAM classes as a foundation for career exploration and student engagement
Work is underway in partnership with Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) and other postsecondary institutions on purposeful dual credit offerings. MHCC’s College Now for Dual Credit Director Kealani Balfour has become a key partner in helping us develop our postsecondary offerings to students.
The District has been working with its alternative programs, including REY Academy Administrator Elizabeth Jensen and Connections Coordinator Alayna Windham, to develop equitable access and supports for all students to engage in college and career exploration and planning opportunities.
Administrative Assistant Danielle LaVasseur has been working to develop a database of business and community partners. This database will be shared with the Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce’s Career-Linked Learning Director Asha Aiello to create more seamless ways for educators and business partners to collaborate on career-related learning opportunities.
