Carla Gay - Director of Innovation & Partnerships

Carla: My absolute "why" is to disrupt systems of inequity while bringing together people to figure out better ways to solve the problems created by instutionalize education systems of oppression. I love to think outside of the box and when others say 'we can't', I like to ask 'why not?' To me innovation is finding creative solutions to challenging problems and then shining a light on the innovation and possibly taking it to a larger platform where others can benefit from the innovation. I know we can't do this alone and it requires multiple voices and perspectives. This is where partners come in, especially those who work with our most marginalized students. To keep this passion alive in me, I know I have to practice self-care. My wife and two children, along with our large extension of family and friends, help me stay passionate and grounded. I also love to read, travel, and do almost anything that involves spending time outdoors and away from technology.

Alayna Windham M.Ed - Connections Coordinator

Alayna has been with Gresham-Barlow School District as the Connections Coordinator since 2017, working district-wide to serve middle and high school aged youth and young adults. She is a licensed teacher who has prior experience working in alternative and special education settings and is passionate about ensuring all students have access to education, opportunity to achieve and develop their unique goals, abilities, and talents, and thrive in whatever path they choose forward.

Alayna grew up in Southern California and moved to Oregon in 2015 because, as she says, “I wanted to live longer.” She describes the Pacific Northwest as the mecca for outdoor activities and nature lovers, herself included, and finds solace and sanctuary through hiking, stand-up paddle boarding, gardening, reading books in the sun, and departing on long road trips during summer with no set return date. Alayna considers herself a colorful and creative person, drawn to bright colors, and continually strives to learn, be challenged, and grow in all realms of life, even if uncomfortable to do so. She feels education and deeply supportive friendships greatly impacted her life and feels called to give back. Her best friends are her dog and cat.
