Update on protocols to maintain safe and healthy learning environment

    Dear GBSD Community,

A safe and healthy learning environment for students and staff is one of our top priorities. As we resume in-person learning, we have more than 160 protocols and procedures in place to keep everyone safe. All staff have been trained on those protocols which directly affect their responsibilities, such as the ones listed below.

Recently, we have received questions from staff and community members regarding the air quality in our schools.

We wanted you to know the steps we have taken over the last several months to make sure the air in our buildings is safe. We are following the recommendations provided to us by the Oregon Department of Education’s Ready Schools, Safe Learners (RSSL) guidance for school buildings.

In the fall/winter an internal audit of our ventilation systems was conducted by our staff members, along with subcontractors, to assess the ability of our HVAC systems to meet Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations.  Fortunately, the investment the community made in our buildings through the 2016 school bond resulted in the repair and replacement of HVAC systems throughout the district. As a result, the audit of our HVAC systems showed they are operating effectively and able to circulate fresh, outdoor air in our school buildings. Our systems are creating the air flow necessary to meet CDC recommendations.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to safely bring students back for in-person learning.

If you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to submit them to our online listening system “Let’s Talk.”

    Sincerely,

    Gresham-Barlow School District
