    Dear GBSD Community,

As we shared with you earlier, the Gresham-Barlow School District is committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment for our students and staff.

Our Return to Learn Health and Safety Plan for 2021-22 outlines the safety protocols we have in place. These protocols were developed by following guidance in the state’s Ready Schools, Safe Learners Resiliency (RSSL) Framework for the 2021-22 School Year (RSSL). We are also following the governor’s executive orders, and guidance provided by the Oregon School Activities Association. The vast majority of health and safety measures in the state of Oregon’s RSSL Framework are advisory and are offered to schools to support successful full-time, in-person instruction for 2021-22 school year.

On September 7, we received additional guidance from the Multnomah County Health Department. This guidance goes above and beyond guidance issued by the state of Oregon. We have reviewed the county’s recommendations. We are making every attempt to meet the spirit of the health department’s additional guidance. In areas where we have not fully adopted the guidance, we are doing what we can.

Adjustments made to GBSD Safety Protocols

    • Holding band and choir classes outside, when feasible to do so
    • Requiring masks for athletes competing indoors during competition and practice
    • Requiring masks for athletes on the sidelines
    • Requiring masks in the locker room
    • Holding dance and cheer practice outside
    • Limiting spectators at sporting events to 75% capacity
    • Requiring masks for spectators
    • Each school is making adjustments to their lunchroom. Changes are facility and staffing dependent.

Ensuring each student receives a full educational experience

The Oregon Department of Education has directed schools to provide full-time, in-person education for all students every day. The health and safety protocols the Gresham-Barlow School District has in place are designed to allow us to maintain a safe learning environment while keeping as many students as possible attending school in person, full-time, and participating in our co-curricular activities.  It is our goal to provide a full educational experience for each student.

    COVID-19 Dashboards now available online

As we work to keep you informed, we have developed two online COVID-19 Monitoring Dashboards. The “Active Cases” Dashboard shows the number of active cases of COVID-19 within the school district for the last ten days. The “Quarantine” Dashboard shows the number of students and staff members in quarantine for the last ten days. The dashboards display the numbers district-wide and by school. The dashboards will be updated each Monday.

Thank you for partnering with us during this challenging time. We appreciate your support as we continue to navigate the pandemic’s impacts on our students, families, and staff.
