My Tungkongnuch reflects on how the Gresham HS community encouraged her to pursue her goals

“It’s hard to describe just how welcoming and supportive the environment was,” said Tungkongnuch. “There were so many programs, clubs, activities, and sports to be involved in, and no matter what I chose to participate in, I always felt accepted and valued.”

Tungkongnuch says her teachers were truly dedicated to helping students succeed; they were not only knowledgeable but also incredibly flexible and willing to go above and beyond to support her when she needed it.

One of the most influential experiences was her student council involvement, where she had the privilege of learning leadership skills from her student council teacher. His guidance and mentorship were pivotal in shaping her desire to pursue a career in teaching.

After graduating Tungkongnuch attended Pacific University and earned a bachelor's degree in education and learning. She taught first grade for two years, even while undergoing chemotherapy, and is currently a third-grade teacher in the Gresham-Barlow School District.

Currently, she is also pursuing a master's degree to deepen her knowledge in education and better support all students. Tungkongnuch believes students are our future. Her goal is to make a meaningful difference in the world through education.

Outside of professional life, she loves traveling, particularly to Thailand, where she visits her family and enjoys connecting with her roots
