Sam Barlow High School Boys Basketball Team wins historic state championship
Coach Tom Johnson led the team to the first state title for the program
The Bruins won 61 to 55 over Jesuit High School in the Class 6A Oregon Basketball State Championship on March 15.
The win concluded an incredible season by the team. Seniors Brayden Barron and Jalen Atkins finished the season ranked in the top five players in the state. Overall, the outcome is a direct result of Coach Johnson’s leadership and dedication.
After 39 seasons, 711 wins, and countless lives impacted, Coach Johnson was bursting with pride as he watched the Bruins win the state championship.
In an interview with The Oregonian, Coach Tom Johnson shared that even though he doesn’t define himself by championships and wins, it felt great to bring home the state championship trophy. Johnson added that he was really excited for his student athletes and the entire community.
