Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID):

AVID's mission revolves around bridging the opportunity divide by equipping every student with the skills and mindset needed for success in both higher education and the professional world within a diverse global community.
AVID, or Advancement Via Individual Determination, operates as a comprehensive strategy within schools, focusing on enhancing curriculum, rigor, instructional methods, leadership, and campus culture. At the heart of this initiative are AVID Site Teams and Coordinators in secondary schools, tasked with refining educational practices and fostering an environment that ensures all students are well-prepared for college and career pathways. Furthermore, schools offer an AVID elective course designed to specifically address the opportunity gap. This elective aims to support students who may face barriers to higher education, such as being first-generation college attendees, belonging to underrepresented groups, experiencing economic disadvantages, or encountering unique challenges. Admission to the AVID elective involves an application and interview process, providing students with a year-long opportunity during the regular school day to develop essential skills and academic readiness.
