Homework supports student learning and provides students opportunities to practice skills and learning strategies already taught. Parents can support their students by encouraging and providing specific praise for their effort, asking clarifying questions, and giving students an opportunity to express their thinking while completing homework. At East Gresham, we ask that each of our primary students, Kindergarten through 2nd Grade, should be reading at least 20 minutes each day. Intermediate students, 3rd through 5th Grade, should be reading at least 30 minutes each day.
We also encourage our students to spend quality time together with their families. Family activities can include shopping together for groceries, playing a board game, or having dinner together. The goal would be to talk and communicate on the day's events and how students are progressing towards their goals.
Our students at East Gresham Elementary are extraordinary and we appreciate your partnership to help them learn, grow, and thrive!
