KINDERGARTEN REQUIREMENTS
A child must be 5 years of age on or before September 1st to enter kindergarten and 6 years of age on or before September 1st to enter first grade.
If your child will not be 5 or 6 years old on or before September 1st, and you wish to pursue enrollment, please review the requirements in policy JEBA and JEBA-AR. Psychological testing is necessary to determine readiness of a student younger than the required age.
These policies explain that parents requesting early entrance to kindergarten or first grade will be required to comply with the following:
- Conference with the principal of their attendance area school before any actual testing is done; and
- Have their child tested pursuant to the Psychological Testing and Evaluation Requirements listed in JEBA-AR. The tests are to be scheduled and paid for by the parent.
If you have any questions pertaining to this process, please contact Jade Joseph at 503-261-4575 or joseph11@gresham.k12.or.us.
Connect to Kindergarten
Connect to Kindergarten is an annual event that takes place during the spring before your student is expected to begin kindergarten. This event gives families the opportunity to tour the school, meet staff, and learn what you can do over the summer to make sure your student is ready.
The dates and times for the 2026-27 Connect to Kindergarten events will be posted here by the end of March 2026.

Dual Language Instruction EKT classes are also available at North Gresham and Highland Elementary Schools.
