  • Dear Gresham-Barlow School District Families,

You may already know that the Oregon Education Association (OEA) has called on its members to participate in a statewide day of action on Wednesday, May 8 to protest decades of school budget crises in Oregon. The purpose is to advocate for the state to significantly invest in K-12 education so schools have adequate resources to serve all students. Gresham-Barlow School District leadership team is in communication with the Gresham-Barlow Education Association (GBEA) leadership. The GBEA has confirmed with the school district that its members will participate in this day of action on May 8.

Because each and every day of instruction is important to our students’ learning, an agreement between the GBEA and the school district was reached on Tuesday, April 16  to adjust our school calendar. GBSD cannot extend the school year due to the bond construction work, as neighboring districts are doing, thus - we have agreed to swap a non-school day (April 26) for a school day (May 8).

    1. FRIDAY, APRIL 26 WILL BE A REGULAR SCHOOL DAY - Originally there was no school scheduled on this day and it was a professional development day for teachers.

    1. WEDNESDAY, MAY 8 THERE WILL BE NO SCHOOL - Because the day of action would lead to a substitute shortage and prevent the school district from having enough staff to support students at school, every school in the Gresham-Barlow School District will be closed to students on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

The District wants to ensure that you are aware of this school closure so you can make other childcare arrangements. We know that this scheduling change will be challenging for our Gresham-Barlow School District families and are in communication with our before and after school care provider  about this change, too. Our childcare provider will communicate any adjustments to families as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school.

    Sincerely,

    Gresham-Barlow School District

  • Proposed Social Science Resources

A teacher selection committee has recommended the adoption of McGraw Hill’s Networks as the new primary Social Science resource for GBSD middle school classrooms. Networks is a combination of digital and print resources aligned with the new social science standards adopted by the Oregon Department of Education. With school board and budget approval, these resources will begin being used in classrooms in the fall of 2019.

Stop by the school to see a sample of the student textbooks, or click on this link https://www.gresham.k12.or.us/Page/8164 to see digital samples.

Reach out to Director of Teaching and Learning at kautz@gresham.k12.or.us with your feedback or questions.
