GBSD to look at other options in light of decision
Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Sara McCutchen
I am so very excited to learn and grow with the staff and students at Hall, continuing the exceptional work of this amazing school community.
I was born to teach. Growing up in Atlanta, GA, my neighborhood friends and I would set up pretend schools in our bedrooms after school and I was always the teacher. When my little brother and sister came along, I was their teacher—showing them how to navigate the rules of the house and the neighborhood. As a high school student, I used my skills learned in years of swim team to teach infants, children, and adults how to swim. When I entered university, I was the rare student who was able to declare a major as a freshman. I never deviated from that path. I have taught English to non-native speakers in Japan. I have taught children with Autism. I have taught elementary and middle school students Social Studies and Math. I have mentored up-and-coming teachers and worked in central administration, coordinating a variety of programs (dyslexia, homebound, Section 504, and special education). As a campus administrator I have taught students about discipline, self-respect, effort, and achievement. Ultimately, my goal is to get a doctorate degree in curriculum and instruction so that I may one day teach new teachers how to teach. Teaching is my passion. It is the reason I get up in the morning. It is my motivator and what makes me a better person. Teaching is my comfort zone. As Dr. Sharon Johnson at Southwestern University wrote on my very first recommendation letter out of college, “Sara is someone who wants to make a real difference in the world. With her passion for teaching, I believe that she will.” I am excited to be a Hall Hedgehog!
At Hall, we will continue to practice positive citizenship and build a strong community, knowing these are essential to ensuring students are provided with the opportunity to meet their individual needs and learning goals.
Hall teachers and staff are committed to teamwork, and high expectations along with grit and perseverance for each student in all aspects of their lives. We are committed to grade level collaboration, analyzing data, and adjusting instruction so that every student in every classroom is engaged in learning through a rigorous, viable curriculum.
I value our partnership with families and commit to effective communication between home and school as parents know their children best. If you have questions or concerns, please call our office at 503-661-6330. It is truly a privilege to serve you all.
