NEW PROGRAM

GBSD to launch dual language program fall of 2020
-Highland Elementary School selected for program
-Program will begin in kindergarten and move up one grade level per year
-Native Spanish and English speakers will learn together, initially primarily in Spanish


PROFESSIONAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Inquiry teams allow teachers to learn from one another

-Goal is to improve learning for all students
-Allows teachers to bridge theory and practice
-Six week process culminates in "share out"
CAREER PATHWAYS
District launches construction program pilot with industry/educator meet-n-greet
In late January, the District launched the first of six Career Pathways that will be established over the next four to six years. Lease Crutcher Lewis and Fortis Construction are partnering with us to create a construction pilot program. Powell Valley Elementary School, Gordon Russell Middle School, and Sam Barlow High School are participating in the pilot.

Update on work taking place district-wide
-Inquiry Teams began meeting January 27
-Reflective Conversations opportunity in February
-Professional Growth Academy features two 8-week sessions










EDUCATION FOUNDATION UPDATE

Foundation sponsors leadership program, supports crowdfunding campaigns, sponsors science expo
-Foundation donates $10,000 to implement "Leader in Me" at Deep Creek-Damascus K-8 School
-High school students can access foundation funds to cover the costs of science expo projects
-Foundation provides educators platform for crowdfunding campaigns

Learn how you can prevent cyberattacks
-Phishing scams at all-time high
-Carefully analyze where suspicious email is from
-Do not click links, reply, or open attachments
Thanks to the 2016 school bond, we are making safety and security improvements throughout the District.
Students from Gresham High School and Gordon Russell Middle School are being highlighted this year by the "Oregon Promise" campaign.
January was School Board Recognition Month. We celebrated our board members at their business meeting AND on Facebook.
