Gresham-Barlow School District selects Cook for student support services executive director position
Powell Valley Elementary School principal will begin serving in position January 6
The Gresham-Barlow School District announced today that Powell Valley Elementary School Principal Michele Cook has been selected to be the district’s next executive director of student support services.
“During her 26 years in education Michele Cook has served in a variety of leadership roles at a variety of levels that have prepared her to lead the District’s Student Support Services Department,” said Superintendent Dr. A. Katrise Perera. “We believe she is well-equipped to take on this district-level leadership role.”
Cook has served as the principal of Powell Valley Elementary School since 2012. Prior to that she served as assistant principal of Gordon Russell Middle School. Cook also has experience serving as a positive behavior support coach at the district level. Before joining the administrative ranks, Cook taught special education for several years.
“I started my career as a special education teacher,” said Cook. “My experiences over the past 26 years have provided me the opportunity to see firsthand how strong, organized systems can improve learning opportunities for students; I am both honored and excited to work alongside our district leadership team to further improve our school systems to better support all students.”
Cook earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s degree in special education from Portland State University (PSU). Her administrative license is also from PSU.
Cook will become the executive director of student support services January 6. At that time, she will take over the reins from Alice Hunsaker, who currently serves as interim executive director of student support services. The District has started a search for the next principal of Powell Valley Elementary School.
