Gresham-Barlow School Board names Hiu Acting Superintendent of Schools


At the July 1, 2021 school board meeting, the Gresham-Barlow School Board appointed Deputy Superintendent James Hiu as acting superintendent while the board works through a process to select the district’s next superintendent. Superintendent A. Katrise Perera formally resigned from her position on March 23 after accepting a superintendency in Texas.

Hiu has served as the district’s Deputy Superintendent-Human Resources since 2017. Prior to that, he served as Deputy Superintendent of Secondary Education & Operations. He has also served as the district’s Secondary Education Director. He was principal of Sam Barlow High School from 2004-2010.

Before joining the administrative ranks, Hiu taught health and physical education and served as a high school athletic/activities Director.

Hiu earned his Bachelor of Science Degree and his Master of Education Degree from Linfield College. His administrator’s license is from Portland State University.
