Gresham-Barlow School Board fills board vacancy

School board appoints Shawn Farrens to position

At the October 28 school board work session, the Gresham-Barlow School Board voted to appoint Dr. Shawn Farrens to fill a school board vacancy. 

Dr. Farrens is the Human Resources Director/Principal at Baker Charter Schools. Prior to joining the administrative ranks, he was a special education teacher and taught in the Gresham-Barlow School District for ten years.  

The vacancy on the board was created in September when Carla Piluso resigned from Position 4, Zone At-Large. Piluso had four years left on her term. Farrens will serve in the position until June 30, 2023. In May 2023, an election will be held to elect an individual to serve the remaining portion of the unexpired term, which ends June 30, 2025.

Eleven community members applied to serve on the board. The board made the appointment after an interview process which took place on October 7 and October 11.
