GBSD celebrates School Board Appreciation Month
Students and staff honor board of directors for their leadership and dedication
The Gresham-Barlow School District (GBSD) honored its seven school board members at the January 11 school board meeting in celebration of School Board Appreciation Month.
School board members are local volunteers who dedicate their time to improving student achievement and handling the critical tasks of budgeting and overseeing the management of Oregon’s public education structure. During January, the state of Oregon celebrates these volunteers across 197 local school boards, 19 education service district boards, and 17 community college boards.
Students from several schools created a variety of gifts for the school board members. East Gresham, Highland, Hall, Hogan Cedars, Kelly Creek, and Powell Valley Elementary Schools, as well as Deep Creek - Damascus K-8 School created artwork for the school board. Clear Creek Middle School STEAM students created a GBSD version of a classic “Memory” game. Sam Barlow High Culinary Arts Program made dinner and served it before the meeting. Barlow Sound students performed during the meeting.
GBSD also premiered its School Board Appreciation video, “A Round of Applause,” featuring students and staff members from North Gresham Elementary, East Orient Elementary, Dexter McCarty Middle School, and Gresham High School.
