One newcomer, three incumbents will take oath of office at July School Board Meeting
Gresham-Barlow voters cast ballots on May 21 for school board. Incumbents Kris Howatt (Zone 3), Jeff Gibbs (Zone 1), and Mayra Gómez (At Large Zone) ran unopposed for their positions on the board. School board member John Hartsock (At Large Zone) was challenged by Amanda Orozco-Beach who won the election with 52% of the vote.
Orozco-Beach works as a server and has a bachelor of science degree in political science from Portland State University. She has served as an intern for State Representative Chris Gorsek and Gresham City Councilor Mario Palmero.
“The Gresham-Barlow School District is moving in the right direction and making the changes needed to positively impact student learning,” said Orozco-Beach. “I look forward to serving on the school board and being a part of the effort to improve our educational program, provide more hands-on learning opportunities, and ensure our students are prepared for a bright future once they graduate.”
The 2019-20 Board will convene for the first time at the board business meeting on July 11. The oath of office will be administered and the meeting calendar for 2019-20 set. Board meeting agendas are published to the school district website at www.gresham.k12.or.us.
