Gresham-Barlow School District selects principal for
Gresham High School
The Gresham-Barlow School District announced today that Drake Shelton has been selected to be the new principal of Gresham High School (GHS). Shelton has several years of administrative experience, most recently serving three years as assistant principal of Parkrose High School. Prior to that, he served as assistant principal of the Lead Alliance campus at Benson High School. Before that, he was an assistant principal/athletic director at De La Salle North Catholic High School.
“Mr. Shelton brings a wide variety of administrative and teaching experience to the school district that will only enhance his leadership at Gresham High School,” said Superintendent Dr. Katrise Perera. “As a Gresham resident, his familiarity with our community will allow him to leverage resources that will positively impact student learning.”
In 2016 Shelton was named Assistant Principal of the Year by the Confederation of Oregon School Administrators.
Before joining the administrative ranks Shelton taught a variety of subjects at an alternative school to include social studies, business technology, and health. He is also endorsed to teach special education.
Shelton earned his administrator’s license from Portland State University. He has a master’s degree in teaching from the University of Portland and a bachelor’s degree in sports management from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
He was selected for the Gresham High School principalship after an extensive search process which included input from school staff and parents.
“I am honored and excited to lead instruction, build community and enhance the traditions at Gresham High School,” Shelton said. “GHS is located in a great community. I am humbled and honored to lead the school.”
Shelton will replace Terrence Smyth, the school’s interim principal. He will officially begin work in the Gresham-Barlow School District July 1.
