Students in Deep Creek-Damascus K-8’s textiles and materials STEAM course grew bio-material alternatives out of kombucha starter to create a wallet to present at the Northwest Science Expo. The experiment underwent four trials before resulting in a leather-like, nanofibril, substance as students observed the combinations of bacteria, yeast, temperature, and time.

Deep Creek-Damascus K-8 textiles and materials STEAM course teaches students how to use sewing machines, read patterns, and create products for the school and community using different materials.
