A life-long Oregonian, Katherine attended John Marshall High School in Portland Oregon, Oregon State University and graduated from Portland State University. Katherine worked as a counselor, a pharmacy technician and is currently retired.
She began her volunteer career in Damascus when a need for “before and after” school daycare became necessary in her community. She first served on the Budget Committee for the Damascus School District and on one of the unification committees when the district unified with Gresham. She was appointed to the Gresham Barlow Board in 1994 and was first elected in 1995.
Ms. Ruthruff served as chair-person for the Clackamas County Commission on Children and Families and led the commission in starting the Healthy Start Program in Clackamas County.
Katherine and her husband Ron have two grown sons, both graduates of Sam Barlow High School. They have lived in Damascus since 1975 on property Katherine’s family homesteaded.
