Masks strongly recommended in GBSD Schools
July 14, 2022
Dear Summer School Families and District Staff,
On July 3 the Gresham-Barlow School District announced that masks would be required inside school district facilities.
The decision was based on a communication from the Centers for Disease Control, the Oregon Health Authority, and the Oregon Department of Education stating that COVID-19 transmission levels had reached the ‘high’ category in Multnomah County. At that time, based on the communication, the district believed indoor masking was required. Upon further review, and in consultation with local public health entities, the District has determined indoor masking is strongly recommended, but not required.
Because of this, beginning July 14, 2022, masks will be strongly recommended indoors until we receive new guidance.
The GBSD will continue to employ layered mitigation measures such as regular hand washing, cleaning and disinfecting, and asking individuals to stay home if ill, as we work to maintain and support in-person summer programming and prevent the spread of COVID-19 at our district facilities. In addition, the District continues to use ventilation and airflow mitigation strategies and staff monitor and adjust HVAC systems to ensure the proper amount of fresh air is circulated in our facilities.
If you are interested in getting vaccinated against COVID-19, Multnomah County has information on how to get a free vaccine.
Additionally, the CDC has a list of other precautions individuals can take when the Community Level is at the “high” risk level.
As always, thank you for partnering with us to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
Sincerely,
Gresham-Barlow School District
