On August 21, at the school board strategic planning retreat, Robyn Stowers took the oath of office to fill a school board vacancy. The school board formally appointed Stowers to the position at the August 6 school board work session after an interview process.
Born and raised in Oregon, Stowers has volunteered in a variety of ways to support people on their educational journeys to include tutoring refugee families in the English language, teaching civics classes, and mentoring individuals through the college admissions process. She has ten years of experience working with municipal governments in economic and community development and currently supports local nonprofits with organizational development.
The vacancy on the board was created in June when Jeff Gibbs resigned from Position 1, Zone 1. Gibbs had three years left on his term. Stowers will serve in the position until June 30, 2021. In May of 2021, an election will be held to elect an individual to serve the remaining portion of the unexpired term, which ends June 30, 2023.
Five community members applied to serve on the board. The board made the appointment after an interview process which took place in late July.
