3/20/20 Community Update

Dear Clear Creek Community,

We hope this message finds you in good health.  We are experiencing a very unique time and things are changing rapidly. Like many of you are experiencing, the news comes fast and many decisions are made out of our control. This means that we don’t have answers to all of our questions at this time. The situation is challenging because it is new and different from what we have experienced before. What we do know, is that we will follow the guidelines and decisions made by our government officials in an attempt to minimize risk, and to maximize the health and safety of our students and our community. This means, in part, that our school will remain closed until April 28th.

We understand that there are many questions the recent Executive Order from Governor Brown has raised. We have many questions here at school as well. In the coming weeks, we will be working to answer your questions and to find an effective way to make the best of our current situation. At this point, it is important that we all have patience with the process, and remember that we have your child’s best interest at heart. Uncertain times require us to be flexible, open to new ideas, and supportive of each other.

As we work to develop an educational plan in response to Governor Brown's announcement earlier this week, the district has posted educational resources online for students and families wishing to bring some structure to their day.  These resources also provide students the opportunity to review and enrich their academic skills over the coming weeks. There will also be printed resources available at the school site during meal pick up times.

Our district continues to collaborate and develop what supplemental learning and support will look like starting on 4/1/20.  All staff will virtually report for work on 3/30. We have two days of professional development to design these options and learn more as a staff about using Google Classroom and other apps in this work. On 4/1, all GBSD middle schools will roll out a daily structure for students to access resources as well as virtual support from their teachers during established office hours through Google Hangouts.

We realize that not all families have a device or wifi access at home. We are working behind the scenes to identify possible resources we can get to students if the closure continues past the current April 28th date that the Governor has set for the state.

Please continue to monitor the GBSD COVID-19 webpage updates and information during Spring Break. We realize that the closure places additional stressors on families, and specifically on our youth. Please encourage them to follow social distancing, practice healthy handwashing habits, and be safe.
